Every now and then we all need new input to stay sharp. New inspiration, new angles on current topics. How to snare. How to drop. How to move. Music is a dialogue, and what’s better at strengthening your mind and ears than to listen to other people’s work? That’s how this very first Wavepusher playlist got assembled over the course of a few weeks.
So, for the time being, the idea of sharing a focused playlist like this kicks off using Spotify. I would have loved if Bandcamp and their semi recent playlist option was available on desktop as well, but it’s only playable in the (mobile) app. And the speed at which you can build a list and also discover music in various ways within the style of each track using Spotify simply made me pick it over Bandcamp, even though I loathe the artist payback model thought out by Ek and co. I strongly believe that you should support artists directly, for example I’ve spent a few years amassing all of Tsuruda’s music on Bandcamp.
So while we can easily agree that Spotify should pay artists way more than they do, it’s probably the most widespread and accessible platform for anyone to discover music by producers of any level. Consider it a gateway to discovering and directly supporting the artists you like on their Bandcamp or official page.
This first run of Wavepusher Selects spans 50 tracks, about 2:45 hours of electronic diversity, of some of my favorite recently and semi recently released music for whenever I’m not making my own – I think you’ll dig at least some of it as well – note: To avoid each track being only a preview, you will need to log in to Spotify using either a free (will play in random order) or Premium account. Once you’re logged in, you can save the playlist to your library from there:
